Mixing Varieties

This topic has pretty much been covered in previous write ups.  I mix them ALL.  I do not have any pure blacks (not carrying any recessives) in my barn.  Or blues or chocolates.  The only variety that is pure because there is no other choice, are lilacs.  So the following is really only opinion and should be taken as such and not as canon.

Breedings should be done with compatible animals regardless of color.  If culled accordingly, even Blue and Lilac is okay to do (though I would only recommend this to experienced breeders).  I know of breeders that study pedigrees when breeding animals together.  I do the same but only to ensure the lines aren’t too closely related.  I don’t mind line breeding but I will rarely, if ever, inbreed unless the animals perfectly complement each other and then cull hard to ensure the traits I keep are the ones I want.

In short, I have had no ill effects mixing all the varieties when breeding and will continue to do so.  I keep the best and move the rest.
